Invisible at last

Do you remember that This American Life segment, where the guy asks people:

If you could only have one superpower, would you rather be invisible, or fly?

I always thought "Invisible."

The reporter found that to be true of most women. Women wanted invisibility. Men wanted to fly.

As I remember it, the reporter thought it was because women are more sneaky and gossipy. But to me, that women want to be invisible makes sense. After all, we are constantly judged on what we look like---by friends, by associates, by family, by strangers. Wouldn't it be a relief to be able to go where you want to go wearing whatever you want?

In any case, women may someday get that chance.

Scientists have recently announced they have taken steps toward making an invisibility cloak.

I *can't wait* until I can lay out on a beach without worrying about how I look in a bathing suit.
