I can't believe I'm saying this.....but I kind of feel sorry for Ted Haggard. He's a hypocrite, sure. And he hurt us, absolutely. But he said in the letter to his congregation that he kept trying to fight this darkness---and I keep thinking about Young Ted, Ted as a little boy, who was attracted to other little boys and was presumably told, over and over again, that this made him evil.
I want to live in a world where even Ted Haggard can grow up and be himself.
I am a college student and i have some honest questions about christian lesbians and gays. I grew up in an extremely conservative household. In the area i live in i am supposed to believe that homosexuals go to hell. I believe that ignorance breeds hate and that people are afraid of the unknown. So i would like to become informed on this topic and realy get some feedback on how it works, so that i can at least understand where everyone is coming from. I'll be honest: i don't understand how you can be christian, and gay at the same time without just acceping that you are always sinning and not trying to stop. I would GREATLY LOVE to be able to understand this concept. I can't throw any specific scripture out there, but i HAVE read in the bible where it plainly states that homosexuality is a sin, and i want to understand how a person can be homosexual and a christian and not believe that since they are not trying to quit sinning (committing it knowingly and without repentance) that they are going to hell.
I am NOT trying to be offensive in any way, i just do not understand. If you could explain, or know of somewhere to go for information on the topic, i would GREATLY appreciate it. It's frustrating that everyone gets so upset everytime the topic is brought up. I truly believe that if we all could communicate better, then we would at least be able to understand, even if we disagree. Thanks for your consideration! =]
